It is easy to get excited about our annual holidays, especially if we are visiting an exotic foreign country on the other side of the world. In our rush to get packed and prepared for the holiday, however, we often fail to leave sufficient time to get to the airport comfortably and risk missing our scheduled flight.
As a holiday is supposed to be about relaxing and taking a break from the stresses and strains of our modern day life, it does seem strange that we manage to add to this stress by not leaving sufficient time to get to the airport on time. Sometimes this may be unavoidable, but even the best of plans can go wrong if the car breaks down, or there are long traffic jams on the motorway.
The only alternative if you do insist on travelling on the day of your flight is to leave a very long period of time to arrive at the airport, not just an extra hour, as traffic jams can last for several hours, and a breakdown may take even longer. To be sure to arrive on time, you would probably have to allow an extra four or five hours at the very least. Of course, the down side to this is that if there are no travel problems, then you have a very long and potentially boring wait at the airport itself. Not only can this be frustrating, but also expensive as you will probably resort to spending extra money on food and drinks.
